As women transition into their golden years, they often cross a bridge called perimenopause and menopause. These phases, characterised by fluctuating hormone levels, usher in a spectrum of physical, emotional, and mental changes.

At Chippenham Pharmacy’s Menopause Clinic, we take pride in offering personalised and comprehensive care. Our expertise in perimenopause and menopause allows us to provide insightful guidance and the latest treatments to manage this life phase more effectively. Understanding that every woman experiences menopause differently, we customise our approach to meet your unique needs.

What Are Perimenopause and Menopause?

Perimenopause sets in when hormone levels start to dwindle, often in the late 40s or early 50s, but sometimes earlier. This stage can stretch up to a decade, marked by declining oestrogen production, irregular cycles, hot flashes, and night sweats.

Menopause, however, is the stage when a woman’s menstrual cycles have paused for a year, symbolising the end of her reproductive years, typically between 45 and 55. Factors such as surgery, chemotherapy, or genetics could trigger premature menopause.

How do I Manage Perimenopause and Menopause

Understanding and managing the implications of perimenopause and menopause involves lifestyle adjustments and potential medical interventions. Our team at Chippenham Pharmacy’s Menopause Clinic is here to assist you in exploring the most suitable options. Some women find relief through alternative therapies such as acupuncture or herbal medication, while others may opt for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can considerably alleviate the common symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. This can include hot flushes, brain fog, joint pains, mood swings, and vaginal dryness. HRT can also reduce the risk of hormone-related illnesses like osteoporosis and heart diseases.

Perimenopause and menopause can amplify stress, potentially worsening physical and emotional symptoms. Techniques like deep breathing, mindfulness meditation, and yoga can be invaluable for managing such tension. A supportive network of family, friends, and mental health experts can also provide a strong safety net.

Support Systems: Guidance for Perimenopause and Menopause

Perimenopause and menopause may bring a series of physical and emotional changes. Understanding the triggers, symptoms, and management strategies can help maintain health and quality of life.

Whether it’s through GPs, nurses, pharmacists, or specialised NHS private menopause specialists, professional support can make all the difference. Non-profit organisations like The Menopause Charity or Menopause Matters can provide further guidance. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is also an accessible mental health resource.

At Chippenham Pharmacy’s Menopause Clinic, our highly trained nurse practitioner  is able to provide a holistic approach for managing all aspects of perimenopause and menopause.  Please feel free to contact us to arrange a private consultation as we are here to support and help you embrace this transition in your life enabling you to live life to the full.

Why go private?

Ideally all menopause care would be available on the NHS but sadly, at present this is not the case for many women as GPs are under immense pressure with rising workloads and reduced staffing levels and trying to advise women during a short appointment can be challenging. A private consultation can give you plenty of time in a relaxed setting to discuss your symptoms, to look at all your options for improving how you are feeling whilst considering  your future health.

Our aim is to spend time working out the right HRT options for you and to then get you back to your GP for ongoing NHS prescriptions and follow up if possible. Alternatively, a private prescription can be issued to obtain at our pharmacy.
