Hepatitis B (Hep B) is a liver disease that is spread by contact with infected bodily fluids (blood, semem or vaginal fluids). There is a low risk of contracting Hep B in the UK, however travelling abroad, or your occupation can expose you to a greater level of risk. How can you contract Hepatitis B?
The main methods that Hep B can be contracted are by the following means:
- Unprotected sex
- Shared needles for injecting
- Being injured by a used needle
Who should get protected against Hepatitis B?
Protecting yourself against Hep B is vital, especially for people who risk exposure from either travel or their occupation. Front line healthcare workers and other occupations are particularly at risk and it is your employers responsibility to risk assess your working environment. If Hep B is required for your role, you can book an appointment Chippenham Pharmacy and Health Clinic to receive the vaccination. Key roles at high occupational risk include:
- Healthcare workers
- Laboratory staff
- Staff of residential and other accommodation for those with learning difficulties
- Other groups such as; morticians, embalmers, police, fire and rescue services
How do you get vaccinated?
For full protection, you need to have three vaccinations, usually given at zero, one and six months, however our clinical team will be able to confirm your exact needs to ensure that you get the correct protection.
How much does it cost for the Occupational Health Hepatitis B vaccination?
